Professional History
Linda Kasonde is a lawyer and a civil rights activist. She is the owner and founder of her law firm, LCK Chambers, which she started in May 2019. She is also the founder and Executive Director of Chapter One Foundation. Chapter One Foundation promotes and protects human rights, human rights defenders, constitutionalism, the rule of law, and social justice in Zambia. The foundation does so through civic education, advocacy, and strategic public litigation.
In April 2019 she was elected as the Vice-President for Africa for the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, the first Zambian to hold that position.
In 2014, she became the first female and named partner in the internationally recognized Zambian law firm, Mulenga Mundashi Kasonde (MMK). She was the first woman to be elected as President of the Law Association of Zambia in the history of the Bar Association in Zambia. The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) is the body that regulates the legal profession in Zambia. It also has a statutory mandate to promote and protect the rule of law, constitutionalism, good governance, and social justice in Zambia.
She has completed the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s International Leadership Programme. Linda is formerly an officer of the Bar Issues Commission and is currently an officer of the Africa Regional Forum of the International Bar Association (IBA). She is the Chairperson of the University of Zambia’s staff tribunal and was formerly a member of the inaugural Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal.
Linda is a 2014 alumnus of the U.S State Department’s International Visitor’s Leadership Programme (IVLP) on Women in Political and Social Affairs; and obtained a Fellowship at the Draper Hills program at Stanford University’s Centre for Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law.
